Stratford City Link Bridges 2 and 3, London
Client: Westfield Shopping Towns

Two new bridges link Stratford Town Centre to the new Olympic Village. Both bridges span railway infrastructure (above and below ground) which belong to Channel Tunnel Rail Link and Network Rail. We were brought on board by the contractor to provide tender and detailed design services. We also provided support in seeking technical approval from the authorities. These included Form A (Tender Approval), Form B (Design Check Statement) and Form C (Design & Check of Temporary Works).

Advanced soil-structure interaction modelling was used to determin the impact of construction on adjacent structures and infrastructure, which enabled CTRL planning approval.

Some of the construction work was undertaken during track possession time (lifting of deck onto bridges). However, the significant proportion of work was undertaken during normal operation times. This required extensive liaison with Network Rail and CTRL to ensure the works were undertaken in the correct manner, and that all necessary approvals were in place. A close working relationship with the contractor was essential to improve on the generic concept design produced by others and to ensure buildability.
